Sioux Crape Myrtle is still blooming now — deep pink flower clusters that open in midsummer and keep going well into fall, one of the longer color windows in the crape myrtle lineup.

Sioux is a U.S. National Arboretum release, and per University of Georgia Extension's official cultivar guide, it carries high resistance to powdery mildew and has also shown resistance to Cercospora leaf spot in field trials — a combination not every crape myrtle cultivar can claim — plus some of the best exfoliating bark in the class for winter interest. At a mature height of roughly 10–20 feet, it grows larger than compact varieties like Acoma, making it a better fit where you want a specimen tree or light shade rather than a foundation shrub.

Same seasonal note as always with crape myrtles: hold off on pruning right now. UGA Extension advises against pruning in early fall, since it forces new growth that an early freeze can damage. Late winter to early spring is the right window — and even then, crape myrtles bloom on new growth regardless, so aggressive "topping" isn't necessary.
