Appalachian Snow is a disease-resistant selection of Cornus florida, Georgia's native flowering dogwood and one of its most widely planted ornamental trees. Unlike sun-loving crape myrtles, dogwoods do best sited with some shade — UGA Extension notes they're naturally an understory tree, and while too much shade reduces flowering, full baking sun isn't ideal either. A spot with dappled or afternoon shade is the sweet spot.
