Grass: Festuca Glauca Blue Fescue Plant

Description

Quart pot of 10 count flat grass Festuca Glauca Blue Fescue, grown in zones 4-8, is a stunning ornamental grass with icy blue foliage and pale yellow flowers.

Grass: Festuca Glauca Blue Fescue.

Festuca glauca Blue Fescue is a dwarf ornamental grass, mostly grown for its attractive foliage color. It is a clumping grass, meaning that it will not spread aggressively and can be used as a ground cover. Blue fescue is also tolerant of a wide range of conditions, including drought, poor soil, and cold weather.

Growing Blue Fescue

Blue fescue can be grown from seed or from divisions of existing plants. If starting from seed, sow the seeds indoors in early spring or outdoors in late spring or early summer. Blue fescue seeds germinate slowly, so it may take several weeks to see seedlings emerge.

Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them to their permanent location. Blue fescue prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Amend the soil with some compost or other organic matter before planting to improve drainage and fertility.

Caring for Blue Fescue

Blue fescue is a low-maintenance grass. Water it regularly, especially during the first year after planting. Once established, blue fescue is drought tolerant and will only need to be watered occasionally during dry periods.

Fertilize blue fescue in the spring with a balanced fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can promote excessive growth and make the plants more susceptible to pests and diseases.

Blue fescue does not require regular pruning, but you may want to trim off the flower heads after blooming to maintain a neat appearance. You can also divide blue fescue clumps every few years to keep them vigorous.

Uses for Blue Fescue

Blue fescue is a versatile grass that can be used in a variety of ways in the garden. It is a popular choice for ground covers, rock gardens, and borders. Blue fescue can also be used in containers and planters.

Here are some ideas for using blue fescue in your garden:

  • Plant blue fescue as a ground cover in a sunny spot. It will help to suppress weeds and add interest to your landscape.
  • Use blue fescue to edge a flower bed or border. Its contrasting foliage color will help to make your flowers stand out.
  • Plant blue fescue in a rock garden or along a pathway. It will add texture and visual interest to your garden.
  • Grow blue fescue in a container or planter and place it on your patio or deck. It will add a touch of greenery and elegance to your outdoor space.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
