Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree

The Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree (Prunus × yedoensis var. pendula) is a beautiful and popular ornamental tree that is known for its graceful weeping branches and its abundant blooms of light pink flowers in the spring. It is a hybrid of the Yoshino cherry (Prunus × yedoensis) and the weeping Higan cherry (Prunus subhirtella var. pendula).

The Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree typically grows to be 15-20 feet tall and 10-15 feet wide. It has a weeping habit of growth, with branches that cascade down to the ground. The leaves are small and dark green, and turn a brilliant yellow-orange in the fall. The flowers are borne in clusters on the branches and are a light pink color with a white center. Weeping Yoshino Cherry Trees bloom in the spring, from late April to early May.

Weeping Yoshino Cherry Trees are relatively low-maintenance plants. They prefer full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. They are also drought-tolerant once established. Weeping Yoshino Cherry Trees do not require much pruning, but they can be pruned in the late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and to maintain their shape.

Weeping Yoshino Cherry Trees are a great choice for a variety of landscaping uses. They can be planted as single specimen trees, in groups, or in borders. They can also be used to create a privacy screen or a windbreak. Weeping Yoshino Cherry Trees are also a good choice for planting in containers.

Here are some tips for growing Weeping Yoshino Cherry Trees:

  • Choose a planting site that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-drained soil.
  • Amend the soil with compost or other organic matter before planting.
  • Water regularly, especially during the first growing season.
  • Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Mulch around the base of the tree to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Prune in the late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and to maintain the shape.

With proper care, Weeping Yoshino Cherry Trees can be a beautiful and rewarding addition to any landscape.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Growing Zones: 5-10

Mature Height: 8-15 ft.
Sunlight: Full Sun
Mature Width: 8 to 15ft
Growth Rate: Slow
Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
