Penny Mac Hydrangea is a cold-hardy, reblooming plant that produces beautiful blooms all summer. Grown in various zones, it's a Louisiana Super Plant Selection for Spring 2012.

Penny Mac Hydrangea

Penny Mac Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Penny Mac') is a beautiful and popular hydrangea cultivar that is known for its large, mophead flowers and its long blooming season. It is a popular choice for landscaping because of its easy care and its ability to thrive in a variety of conditions.

Penny Mac Hydrangea typically grows to be 3-6 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. It has a rounded habit of growth and dark green, glossy leaves. The flowers are large and globe-shaped, with petals held in a symmetrical, 3D manner. They can be either pink or blue, depending on the pH of the soil. Pink flowers are typically seen when grown in alkaline soil, while blue flowers are more common in acidic soil. Penny Mac Hydrangea blooms from summer to fall.

Penny Mac Hydrangea is a relatively low-maintenance plant. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It is also drought-tolerant once established. Penny Mac Hydrangea does not require much pruning, but it can be pruned in the late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and to maintain its shape and size.

To change the color of Penny Mac Hydrangea flowers, you can adjust the pH of the soil. To make the flowers blue, add aluminum sulfate to the soil. To make the flowers pink, add lime to the soil. It is important to note that it may take several months or even a year for the flowers to change color.

Here are some tips for growing Penny Mac Hydrangea:

  • Choose a planting site that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-drained soil.
  • Amend the soil with compost or other organic matter before planting.
  • Water regularly, especially during the first growing season.
  • Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Prune in the late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and to maintain the shape and size of the plant.
  • Adjust the pH of the soil to change the color of the flowers.

Penny Mac Hydrangea is a beautiful and versatile plant that is a great addition to any garden. It is easy to care for and can be used in a variety of ways, such as a foundation plant, a hedge, or a specimen plant.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
