Pawpaw Tree
The pawpaw tree (Asimina triloba) is a small deciduous tree native to the eastern United States and Canada. It is the only temperate genus in the tropical and subtropical flowering plant family Annonaceae, and Asimina triloba has the most northern range of all. Well-known tropical fruits of different genera in family Annonaceae include the custard-apple, cherimoya, sweetsop, ylang-ylang, and soursop.
Pawpaw tree
The pawpaw tree is a patch-forming (clonal) understory tree of hardwood forests, which is found in well-drained, deep, fertile bottomland and also hilly upland habitat. It has large, simple leaves with drip tips, more characteristic of plants in tropical rainforests than within this species' temperate range. Pawpaw fruits are the largest edible fruit indigenous to the United States (not counting gourds, which are typically considered vegetables rather than fruit for culinary purposes, although in botany they are classified as fruit).
The pawpaw tree is a self-incompatible plant, which means that pollen produced on a plant cannot pollinate flowers on the same plant. To produce fruit, two or more different pawpaw trees are needed.
The pawpaw fruit is a large, yellowish-green to brown fruit with a sweet, custard-like flavor. The fruit is typically 3 to 7 inches long and 1 to 3 inches wide. Pawpaw fruits are ripe in late summer and fall.

The pawpaw tree is also a valuable wildlife plant. The fruit is eaten by many different animals, including birds, mammals, and reptiles. The leaves and branches of the pawpaw tree are also a food source for deer and other animals.
The pawpaw tree is a relatively easy tree to grow. It can be grown in a variety of soils and climates. Pawpaw trees are typically planted in the spring. The trees need regular watering, especially during the first year after planting.
Pawpaw trees are a valuable addition to any landscape. They provide beautiful flowers, edible fruit, and habitat for wildlife.
Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.
We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.
