Mock Orange Plant

Description

Mock Orange is a fragrant shrub grown in zones 4-8. It produces white flowers and can grow up to 10 feet tall. Perfect for any garden!

MOCK ORANGE

Mock orange (Philadelphus) is a genus of about 60 species of deciduous shrubs from 3‚¬€œ20 feet tall, native to North America, Central America, Asia, and southeast Europe. It is a popular choice for home gardens due to its attractive appearance, ease of care, and ability to tolerate a variety of growing conditions.

Mock orange is named for its sweet fragrance, which is reminiscent of orange blossoms. The flowers are typically white, but some varieties have pink or yellow flowers. The flowers are produced in clusters on the tips of the branches in the late spring and early summer.

Mock orange is relatively low-maintenance. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established. Water mock orange regularly, especially during the first year after planting. Fertilize it once a year in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.

Mock orange is a versatile plant that can be used in a variety of ways in the landscape. It can be planted as a specimen plant, in groups, or in borders. It is also a good choice for growing in containers. Mock orange can also be used to create hedges and screens.

Here are some additional tips for growing mock orange:

  • Prune mock orange in the late winter or early spring to remove any dead or diseased wood and to shape the plant as desired.
  • Deadhead spent flower clusters to encourage new growth.
  • Protect mock orange from deer and rabbits, which may damage the foliage.

With proper care, mock orange can thrive for many years to come and add a touch of beauty and fragrance to your landscape.

Some popular mock orange varieties include:

  • Philadelphus coronarius (Sweet mock orange)
  • Philadelphus x virginalis (Virginal mock orange)
  • Philadelphus x lemoinei (Lemoine's mock orange)
  • Philadelphus x purpureus (Purple mock orange)
  • Philadelphus x microphyllus (Dwarf mock orange)

When choosing a mock orange variety, consider the size of the plant, the color of the flowers, and the fragrance. You should also consider the growing conditions in your garden and choose a variety that is suited to your climate.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
