Lord Baltimore Hibiscus

Lord Baltimore Hibiscus (Hibiscus moscheutos 'Lord Baltimore') is a vigorous, herbaceous perennial that is known for its massive, dinner plate-sized flowers. It is a popular choice for home gardens due to its dramatic blooms, ease of care, and ability to thrive in a variety of growing conditions.

Lord Baltimore Hibiscus typically grows to a height of 4-5 feet and a width of 2-3 feet. It has large, lobed, dark green leaves and reddish-brown stems. The flowers are produced in abundance in the mid-summer to early fall and are about 10 inches in diameter. They are a deep crimson color with ruffled petals and a prominent central staminal column.

Lord Baltimore Hibiscus is relatively low-maintenance. It prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established. Water Lord Baltimore Hibiscus regularly, especially during the first year after planting. Fertilize it once a year in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.

Lord Baltimore Hibiscus is a versatile plant that can be used in a variety of ways in the landscape. It can be planted as a specimen plant, in groups, or in borders. It is also a good choice for growing in containers. Lord Baltimore Hibiscus can also be used to create privacy screens and windbreaks.

Here are some additional tips for growing Lord Baltimore Hibiscus:

  • Prune Lord Baltimore Hibiscus in the late winter or early spring to remove any dead or diseased wood and to shape the plant as desired.
  • Deadhead spent flower clusters to encourage new growth.
  • Protect Lord Baltimore Hibiscus from deer and rabbits, which may damage the foliage.

With proper care, Lord Baltimore Hibiscus can thrive for many years to come and add a touch of drama and beauty to your landscape.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
