The Leyland Cypress Tree is a natural privacy fence that grows tall and beautiful. Grown in various sizes, it thrives in growing zones 6-10.
The Leyland cypress (Cupressus × leylandii) is a fast-growing hybrid evergreen tree, often used as a hedge or screen. It is a cross between Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) and Nootka false cypress (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis).
Leyland cypress trees can grow to be very tall, up to 60-70 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide. They have a pyramidal shape with flattened sprays of bluish-green, needle-like leaves.
Leyland cypress trees are hardy in USDA zones 6-10. They prefer full sun and well-drained soil. They are relatively easy to care for and are not susceptible to many pests or diseases.
Here are some tips for growing Leyland cypress trees:
- Plant in a location that receives full sun.
- Amend the soil with compost or peat moss to improve drainage.

The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.
We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.
