Lamb's Ear

Lamb's ear (Stachys byzantina) is a popular perennial plant that is known for its soft, fuzzy leaves that resemble lamb's ears. It is a relatively low-maintenance plant that is tolerant of a variety of soil and climate conditions. Lamb's ear is also deer-resistant and disease-resistant.

Here are some tips for growing and caring for lamb's ear:

  • Choose a sunny spot for your plant. Lamb's ear needs at least 6 hours of sunlight per day.
  • Plant your lamb's ear in well-drained soil.
  • Water your lamb's ear regularly, especially during hot weather. However, be careful not to overwater, as this can lead to root rot.
  • Fertilize your lamb's ear every few weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Mulch around your lamb's ear to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Deadhead spent blooms to encourage new growth.

Lamb's ear is a relatively low-maintenance plant, but it is important to prune it back in the spring to encourage new growth. You can also prune it back in the fall to remove any dead or diseased foliage.

Lamb's ear is a versatile plant that can be used in a variety of garden settings. It looks great in borders, cottage gardens, and rock gardens. It can also be used to naturalize areas or to create a ground cover.

Here are some ideas for using lamb's ear in your garden:

  • Plant it in a border with other perennials, such as daylilies, hostas, and ferns.
  • Plant it in a cottage garden with other flowering plants, such as roses, delphiniums, and foxgloves.
  • Plant it in a rock garden with other drought-tolerant plants, such as succulents and cacti.
  • Plant it in a naturalized area to create a soft, textured ground cover.
  • Plant it in a container on your patio or deck.

No matter how you choose to use it, lamb's ear is a beautiful and rewarding plant that will add interest and texture to your garden.

Additional tips:

  • Lamb's ear is a good companion plant for tomatoes and other vegetables.
  • Lamb's ear is also a good plant for attracting pollinators, such as bees and butterflies.
  • Lamb's ear leaves can be harvested and used in fresh flower arrangements or dried for potpourri.
  • Lamb's ear leaves can also be used to make a soothing tea for sore throats and other respiratory problems.

Enjoy your lamb's ear!

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
