Caroline Raspberry
The Caroline Raspberry is a fall-bearing (everbearing) raspberry variety that is known for its large, flavorful berries and heavy yields. It is a popular choice for home growers due to its ease of care, productivity, and resistance to pests and diseases.
The Caroline Raspberry plant grows to be 4-6 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. It has a vigorous, upright habit and produces canes that are covered in sharp thorns. The leaves of the plant are dark green and compound. The flowers are small and white, and they bloom in spring. The fruit is large and round, with a deep red color and a sweet, tart flavor.
Caroline Raspberries typically ripen in late summer and early fall, but the exact timing will vary depending on your climate. The berries can be eaten fresh, frozen, or canned. They are also good for making jams, jellies, and pies.
To plant a Caroline Raspberry plant, choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball of the plant and amend the soil with compost or manure. Place the plant in the hole and backfill with soil, tamping down gently to remove any air pockets. Water the plant well after planting.
Water your Caroline Raspberry plant regularly, especially during the first year after planting. Fertilize the plant in spring with a balanced fertilizer. Prune the plant as needed to remove dead or diseased canes and to maintain its size and shape.
Caroline Raspberry plants are relatively low-maintenance, but they do require some care in order to produce the best possible yields. With proper care, your Caroline Raspberry plants will thrive for many years and provide you with bountiful harvests of delicious berries.
Here are some additional tips for growing Caroline Raspberries:
- Space the plants 3-4 feet apart.
- Mulch around the plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Provide the plants with a sturdy support structure to help support the weight of the fruit.
- Protect the plants from winter damage in cold climates.
Caroline Raspberries are a delicious and rewarding fruit to grow. With a little care and attention, you can enjoy fresh, homegrown raspberries for many years to come.
Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.
We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.
