Eversweet Pomegranate Plant

Description

Eversweet Pomegranate is a large, orange-red fruit that is grown in warm, sunny climates. It is naturally sweet and juicy, making it perfect for snacking or adding to recipes. This variety thrives in growing zones 7-10.

Eversweet Pomegranate

The Eversweet pomegranate (Punica granatum 'Eversweet') is a popular cultivar of pomegranate that is known for its large, sweet fruits with virtually no seeds. It is a vigorous grower and can reach heights of 10 feet or more. Eversweet pomegranates are typically ripe in the fall.

Growing Eversweet Pomegranates

Eversweet pomegranates are relatively easy to grow and care for. They prefer full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Eversweet pomegranates are tolerant of drought and heat, but they produce best with regular watering. Fertilize the tree once a year in the spring with a balanced fertilizer. Prune the tree in the late winter or early spring to remove dead or diseased branches and to maintain the desired shape.

Tips for Growing Eversweet Pomegranates in Cooler Climates

Eversweet pomegranates are a good choice for growing in cooler climates, as they are more cold-hardy than some other pomegranate varieties. However, you may still need to take some extra care to protect the tree from winter cold. Here are a few tips:

  • Choose a sheltered spot to protect the tree from strong winds.
  • Mulch around the tree in the fall to help protect the roots from winter cold.
  • Water the tree deeply in the fall to help it prepare for winter.
  • If the temperature is expected to drop below -10 degrees Fahrenheit, cover the tree with a frost blanket or burlap.

Harvesting and Using Eversweet Pomegranates

Eversweet pomegranates are typically ripe in the fall, when the fruit is a deep red color and the skin is firm but not hard. To harvest, simply cut the fruit from the tree with a sharp knife.

Eversweet pomegranates can be eaten fresh, used in cooking, or juiced. They are a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, potassium, and fiber.

Here are a few ideas for using Eversweet pomegranates:

  • Eat the seeds fresh, as a snack or dessert.
  • Add the seeds to yogurt, oatmeal, or cereal.
  • Use the seeds in salads or salsas.
  • Juice the pomegranates and drink the juice fresh or add it to smoothies.
  • Use the juice to make pomegranate sauce or pomegranate vinaigrette.
  • Cook the pomegranate seeds in rice, couscous, or quinoa.
  • Add the pomegranate seeds to baked goods, such as muffins, cakes, and cookies.

Enjoy your Eversweet pomegranates!

EVERSWEET POMEGRANATE TREE

The tree produces an abundance of beautiful large orange-red flowers over an extended period of time during the spring. The fruit is abundant, almost seedless, clear and non-staining with red skin. Immature fruit is also sweet making this variety a great choice for cool or coastal climates. Both the flowers and the fruit are produced at a very young age. Eversweet prefers full sun for best fruit production but will tolerate some light shade. Very drought tolerant once established. It is adaptable to any type of well drained soil. The tree is self-fruitful but production is increased with a second tree planted nearby. Harvest late summer through fall.

Bare Root Plants: the plant is shipped with the roots taken out of the pot/ground, and the roots are then wrapped in moist paper, with or without soil. The roots wrapped in moist medium is then covered with some kind of plastic to hold the moisture. The paper with moisture will keep the plant alive, during the journey. The plants, once received, the roots should be given a soak for 30 minutes and planted immediately.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plants are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in Fall and Winter and will lose most of their leaves. Looking dead and dry, is very normal. The plant will flush out in Spring.

We cannot ship certain plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by the California Department of Agriculture.

Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
