Description

Sparkleberry Winterberry Holly is a native shrub grown in moist, acidic soils. It grows up to 10ft tall and is hardy in zones 3-9. Its bright red berries add a pop of color to winter landscapes.

Winterberry holly is native to the entire eastern half of North America. It can be found growing from Nova Scotia to Florida in bogs, swamps, damp thickets, low areas, and along ponds and streams. In wet sites in the wild, it may form large thickets or colonies from suckers. In dry soil, it remains a tight shrub. In the ornamental landscape, this holly prefers average to moist soil, but thrives in a wide range of soil types and conditions.

Plant Care Instructions and Attributes

  • This beautiful, heavily fruiting Holly shows well in an Asian garden or native bird garden design. Plant as a hedge, in mass in a wild area, or as a single specimen shrub in the back of beds and borders. Great cover for walls, fences, garages and sheds.
  • Sparkleberry Deciduous Holly is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition.
  • This shrub will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. It is a good choice for attracting birds to your yard.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
