Redbud Tree
The redbud tree (Cercis canadensis) is a native North American tree that is known for its beautiful, heart-shaped leaves and early spring blooms. Redbud trees can grow up to 30 feet tall and 20 feet wide, and they have a lifespan of 50-75 years.

Redbud trees are relatively low-maintenance trees, but they do have a few specific requirements. Redbud trees prefer full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. They are also drought-tolerant once established.
To plant a redbud tree, choose a location that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Place the tree in the hole and backfill with soil, tamping down gently to remove any air pockets. Water the tree thoroughly.
Water your redbud tree regularly, especially during the first growing season. Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer. Prune redbud trees in the late winter or early spring to remove dead or diseased wood and to shape the tree.
Redbud trees are typically ready to bloom in early spring, before the leaves emerge. The blooms are typically pink or purple in color and last for about 2 weeks. After the blooms fade, the heart-shaped leaves emerge. Redbud trees also produce small, pea-like pods in the fall.
Redbud trees are a beautiful and versatile addition to any landscape. They can be planted as a single specimen tree, used in a hedge or screen, or added to a mixed border. Redbud trees are also popular in bonsai.
Here are some tips for growing and caring for redbud trees:
- Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil.
- Water regularly, especially during the first growing season.
- Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
- Prune in the late winter or early spring to remove dead or diseased wood and to shape the tree.
- Redbud trees are generally pest- and disease-resistant, but it is important to inspect the tree regularly for any signs of problems.
With proper care, redbud trees will provide you with many years of enjoyment.
Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.
We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.
