FAQ's

Is 'French Vanilla' a hardy hibiscus?

Yes, it's a winter-hardy perennial hibiscus that comes back year after year in USDA zones 4-9. It may die back in winter but regrows in spring with lush foliage and large blooms.

How big do the flowers get?

The flowers are massive, typically reaching 7 to 8 inches across. These eye-catching blooms give the plant its 'dinner-plate' hibiscus nickname.

Does it attract pollinators?

Absolutely! Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies are drawn to its large, nectar-rich flowers, making it a great addition to any pollinator garden.

When does it bloom?

It blooms from midsummer into early fall, often producing flowers continuously for several weeks with proper care and sunlight.

Does it need full sun?

Yes, for best flower production and plant health, it should be planted in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

How do I care for it in winter?

The top growth will die back in cold climates. Simply cut back stems after the first frost and mulch around the base for added protection. It will reemerge in spring.

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
