Grass: Pennisetum a. Prairie Winds 'Lemon Squeeze' Fountain Grass

Description

Pennisetum a. Prairie Winds 'Lemon Squeeze' Fountain Grass is a striking selection from the Prairie Winds® series, known for its bright chartreuse foliage that adds bold color contrast to gardens and containers. This fountain grass forms a dense, upright clump and produces soft, bottlebrush-like flower spikes in late summer. Its vivid yellow tones hold well through the growing season and transition into warm golden hues in fall.

Key Features:

  • Foliage: Bright lemon-yellow leaves that remain vibrant through summer

  • Flower Heads: Tan bottlebrush plumes appear in late summer and persist into fall

  • Height & Spread: 3–3.5 feet tall and about 2.5 feet wide

  • Light Requirements: Full sun

  • Soil: Prefers well-drained soils; tolerates moderate drought once established

  • Hardiness: USDA zones 5–9

  • Maintenance: Cut back to a few inches above the ground in late winter or early spring

  • Uses: Excellent for adding color and texture to borders, mass plantings, containers, or modern landscapes

  • Wildlife: Plumes attract birds; foliage offers cover for beneficial insects

Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
