Baldwin Pear Tree

Description

The Baldwin Pear Tree is a hardy, self-pollinating fruit tree that grows up to 20 feet tall. It thrives in zones 4-8 and produces medium-sized, juicy pears. Grown naturally, it's perfect for any home orchard.

Baldwin pears are semi-hard, sweet pears great for canning or desserts. The pears are medium-sized and yellow and ripen in early fall. They are moderately blight and spot resistant and the tree is low chill for the South.

  • Full sun
  • Mature Height : 15-20Feet
  • Mature Spread : 12-15 Feet
  • Zone : 5 - 9

Attributes

  • Baldwin Pear hybrid between Pyrus communis and Pyrus pyrifolia deciduous tree
  • Native to Europe and eastern Asia, and has been introduced throughout much of the eastern United States, from Maine to Florida, and as far west as Texas and Missouri.
  • When young, pears are tall green columns. As they mature, the weight of the fruit pulls the branches down, making the tree look like a cascading fountain of fruit.
  • Mix tall pears with smaller fruits such as blueberries, blackberries, figs and pomegranates. We also like them sprinkled through a wilderness area with dogwoods and crabapples.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

Growing Zones: 5-9

Mature Height: 15 to 20 Feet
Sunlight: Full Sun
Mature width: 15 to 20 Feet
Botanical Name: Pyrus communis
Note
Please note that the plant will be shipped in its pot, securely fastened with multiple layers of clear tape to prevent any shifting or damage during transit. This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
