Autumn Blaze Maple Tree

The Autumn Blaze Maple Tree (Acer × freemanii 'Autumn Blaze') is a beautiful and popular hybrid maple tree that is known for its brilliant fall foliage. It is a cross between the red maple (Acer rubrum) and the silver maple (Acer saccharinum), and was developed in the early 1960s by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Autumn Blaze Maple Tree typically grows to be 40-50 feet tall and 30-40 feet wide. It has a fast growth rate and can reach its mature height within 15-20 years. The tree has a rounded crown and dense, dark green foliage. The leaves are maple-shaped and turn a brilliant orange-red color in the fall.

The Autumn Blaze Maple Tree is a relatively low-maintenance tree. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It is also drought-tolerant once established. The Autumn Blaze Maple Tree does not require much pruning, but it can be pruned in the winter to remove dead or damaged branches and to maintain its shape.

The Autumn Blaze Maple Tree is a great choice for a variety of landscaping uses. It can be planted as a single specimen tree, in groups, or in borders. It can also be used to create a privacy screen or a windbreak. The Autumn Blaze Maple Tree is also a good choice for planting in containers.

Here are some tips for growing Autumn Blaze Maple Trees:

  • Choose a planting site that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-drained soil.
  • Amend the soil with compost or other organic matter before planting.
  • Water regularly, especially during the first growing season.
  • Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Mulch around the base of the tree to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Prune in the winter to remove dead or damaged branches and to maintain the shape.

With proper care, Autumn Blaze Maple Trees can be a beautiful and rewarding addition to any landscape.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plants are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in Fall and Winter and will lose most of their leaves looking dead and dry, is very normal. The plants will flush out in Spring.

We cannot ship certain plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by the California Department of Agriculture.

Bare Root Plants: the plant is shipped with the roots taken out of the pot/ground, and the roots are then wrapped in moist paper, with or without soil. The roots wrapped in moist medium is then covered with some kind of plastic to hold the moisture. The paper with moisture will keep the plant alive, during the journey. The plants, once received, the roots should be given a soak for 30 minutes and planted immediately.

This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
