Description
Hosta Shadowland 'Echo the Sun' is a vibrant, golden-yellow hosta that brings bold color and elegant texture to shaded gardens. It is prized for its bright foliage, which holds its yellow hue well into summer, unlike many yellow hostas that fade or green out. The broad, heart-shaped leaves are gently rippled along the margins and have prominent veining, giving the plant a luminous, sculpted appearance. As part of the Shadowland® collection, it is bred for exceptional garden performance, including strong disease resistance, vigor, and showy presence.
Key Features:
-
Foliage: Broad, heart-shaped golden-yellow leaves with softly rippled edges and strong veining. The color is long-lasting and bright even in shade.
-
Mature Size: Typically grows 18–20 inches tall and spreads 30–36 inches wide, forming a wide, symmetrical mound.
-
Flowers: Pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers appear on tall, slender scapes in midsummer, rising just above the foliage.
-
Light Requirements: Thrives in part to full shade. Can tolerate some morning sun, which can enhance its golden color without fading.
-
Soil: Grows best in moist, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
-
Hardiness: Hardy in USDA zones 3 to 9.
-
Maintenance: Low-maintenance, slug-resistant, and dependable. Rarely needs dividing and benefits from mulching to retain soil moisture.
-
Uses: Excellent for brightening shaded borders, woodland gardens, and containers. Its vibrant color contrasts beautifully with darker-leaved hostas or ferns.
-
Breeder Notes: Bred for color retention and compact, attractive form as part of the Proven Winners® Shadowland® series.
