Description
Autumn Fern earns its name honestly — new fronds emerge a warm coppery-pink and hold that color into fall before settling into deep glossy green, giving this fern real color interest exactly when most shade plants are winding down.
According to North Carolina State University Extension, Dryopteris erythrosora prefers acidic, evenly moist soil high in organic matter, and tolerates everything from dappled sunlight to deep shade — making it one of the more forgiving ferns for a spot under trees or on the north side of a house. It forms a low, arching clump around 18–24 inches tall, and is naturally resistant to both deer and rabbits.
Fall is a good time to plant: cooler air lets roots establish before next summer's heat, without the stress of transplanting into peak summer temperatures.
Grown and shipped from our nursery in Conyers, Georgia, backed by our 30-Day Plant Guarantee and free shipping on orders over $29.
